Sunday morning sugar hangovers, oh my

It’s Sunday morning, and the boys are at the market (including our dog), while I’m at home alone, crafting. Sounds like a pretty nice, relaxing morning, right?

Except for the fact that because I dared to have a piece of cake and a soft drink last night at a friend’s birthday, my body is protesting. I woke up at 3 am with a cracking headache, and puffy eyes…hello sugar hangover, how not-nice to see you.

In all honesty, it is a nice, chilled-out morning. Today, the plans are to get outside again, since it’s a beautiful day. I’m hoping my son will be up for another bushwalk somewhere; otherwise, I might try to tempt him with a bike ride or something else.

So, what’s been happening this week?

No Bear zone

During the week, my son took it upon himself to designate some of our outdoor areas as “No Bear Zone”. Our dog’s name is Bear, but it’s comforting to know that if some genuine bears managed to find their way into our backyard that we have places to retreat to (after the obvious “go inside and lock the doors” option).

He reasoned that Bear would read the signs, realise he wasn’t allowed there, and then go do something else. Bear is known to steal firewood from under the pizza oven (how he chews on it and doesn’t get mouth splinters, I don’t know) or toys from the cabinet. Fun fact – when we moved in, the cabinet was in the garage, presumably for tools. We replaced it with better shelving, stuck it outside and painted it. It’s not very good-looking looking but until Luca grows up and doesn’t trash stuff, it’ll certainly do.

Uploading those pics made me realise that our concrete is due for another high-pressure spray to get rid of the dirt.

TV Ban

Also during the week, the little dude got his sassy pants on and turned into a right little….shouldn’t say that online because I love my son.

Long story short, he lost access to the TV for a week.

He loves TV, always has since he was little. When it goes on, his focus locks, and he blocks out the world. It’s great when you need a break and a digital babysitter (said in jest), but not that great as a whole.

Honestly, while he’s hated not having access, I’ve loved it. The house feels quieter and more peaceful. At dinner, we talk to each other, and he’s playing outside and more actively than ever. When he’s in his bedroom, he’s either reading or listening to music. The other night he was bored, so we all played board games together. I loved it!

I didn’t love coming last out of all of us. And no one got a Yahtzee, boo!

Last night I had suggested we keep to some rules – an hour of TV in the morning (he’s an early riser, so after breakfast and getting dressed for school, he’s got time to kill), and an hour at night after he’s played outside, had dinner and showered.

Then he ended up developing a case of the attitudeitis, and lost the TV for another week.

Long story short, someone is incidentally developing a love for music and reading, while simultaneously avoiding learning to listen. We’re still working on it.

How’s everyone else’s week been?
