I’m oh so tired…shhh….shhh

The title of this post was inspired by Björk’s It’s Oh So Quiet song, but in my own words.

You know how October only just started? Well, I looked at the calendar, and we are now booked in for something every weekend until the middle of November.

If you heard that sound, my inner social bar just saw what’s planned, crashed through the floor, and continued down a few levels.

  • Originally I had a weekend in October marked as “Do nothing day, book something in and Kel will kill you”, but guess who broke that? Yep, that’s right, this girl. But in my defence, it’s for my niece’s birthday, so I think that’s forgiveable.
  • It’s also our 10th wedding anniversary this year.

5 things for Friday (vol. 13)

Featured image of doodles for the week

It’s been a really uneventful week, and I felt like I was scraping the bottom of the barrel to come up with something to write.

So I decided that this week I would share what I’ve been listening, watching, reading, and thinking about.

Listening

Working from home, I always have to have noise in the background. Enter Spotify.

(Side topic: I wish you could claim Spotify as a necessary WFH expense. But myyyy wouldn’t that piss off all the folks who hate the idea of working from home in the first place?)

Although I have a gigantic starred playlist, my mood varies a lot. Most of the time I start a radio based on a single song. Or a mate at work recommends something, I play it, get focused on work, and Spotify just keeps doing its thing after.…

52 in 52 update: Reinstate date night

This year, the goal was to get back to having regular time set aside for my husband and me.

When we first got married, we made a rule that each month, the same date of the month as our wedding would be set aside as a date night to do something special together.

Once our son came along, it became a lot more challenging. At first it was because of breastfeeding; then it was a hassle to find a babysitter. Eventually the idea just petered out, and for many years we only had sporadic date nights here and there.

This year I wanted to get back to spending more time together and reconnecting. Get out of the whole “life admin” thing it felt like we were stuck in.…

52 in 52 update: Shadow Box craft and Big Life Journal

Sunday evening, all is quiet around the house, and today I’ve managed to finish another 52. Even better, I’ve got time to write about it, and another one that’s also done and dusted.

Completed

Make a shadow box

For years I’ve seen people make cool shadow boxes of all different themes: Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc. I’d always wanted to make them, and knew it wouldn’t be too difficult. It was just about prioritising the time for it.

This one was left towards the back half of the year for the very same reason – prioritising the time.

After my last post mentioned which 52s I still had left to go, I decided to bite the bullet. I jumped online and searched for some shadow box templates.…

5 things for Friday (vol. 12)

Last night, Friday night, I grabbed my laptop with the intention of writing this post. And instead, I put it back down, went to bed, and had a much-needed 8-hour sleep.

Let’s take a look at the randomness of this week.

I started making a shadowbox

I’ll write about this more in a 52 wrap-up, but this week I started making my shadowbox. I downloaded a design on Etsy and started cutting it out.

Unfortunately, my Cameo cutter didn’t cut all the way through on some more intricate cuts, so I’m tracing those with my craft knife.

But I started putting the layers together; here’s a sneak preview.

One watery eye

Does this ever happen to anyone else? I was working out this week on the bike, and only one eye started watering.…

Another 12 months of my world

Blog header featuring paper doodles of a laptop and other memories

On 5 January 2013, I wrote the first post on my new blog. It was my second site, the first a small site piggybacking off my sister’s, while I figured out if I enjoyed writing. I did, and eventually, I pulled up my big girl pants and built my own site.

It was called “Kelly’s World”, and for a long time, that’s what it felt like.

It’s amusing to look back at that post and how proud I was. I boasted that I had even personalised the site, which these days, feels like the bare minimum.

It was a huge decision to start a new blog again and move to Kel me about it.

A large part of that was that mentally, I wasn’t in a good way.…
