Monday Mentions: the personal blogs I’ve been loving

A little while ago, I wrote a post, “Where did all the personal blogs go?” complaining about how I was struggling to find personal blogs to read and enjoy.

Since then, I’ve been on a campaign to find more.

I’ve been:

  • Stalking the comments of the blogs I already follow
  • Checking out the recommendations I got on my post (thanks Elisabeth!)
  • Following the “Blogging” sub on Reddit
  • Adding comments to posts – I love when people comment on my posts, so why not return the love and let people know I’m appreciating them

I’ve managed to find some great new blogs, which I thought I would share here.

And in doing so, create a “Monday Mentions” post theme.…

Screens down. Kid Unlocked.

This weekend, I solo-parented while my husband headed off camping with his dad. Just me and the kid.

And we’ve been in an ongoing war with tech screen time in this house. I’ll be honest, I haven’t always been winning it.

The Tech Battle

Our son was recently grounded from all tech completely after some behaviour that warranted it. And while I held the line… I did cave on Saturday morning cartoons. Slightly. He was limited to one channel and a set time, but still. The silver lining is that it meant I was able to clean the bathrooms and get some much-needed housework done.

The toughest thing is that he has two parents who work from home. He watches us on our computers all day, and no matter how many times we explain that we’re paid to be there, that it’s work and not fun, the logic doesn’t quite land the way you’d hope.…

Where did all the personal blogs go?

Does anyone remember the “good ol’ days” of personal blogs? Reading about the random things going on in people’s lives, what their family has been up to, trips they’ve taken etc. Where have they gone?! I miss them!

I suppose you could say that social media replaced all that, and the microbloging stuff. But it’s such a terrible replacement.

This year my goal is to try and cut back on social media. Last year I replaced doomscrolling at night with reading, I turned off all my notifications (except messenger), and this year I’ve created a rule that I can’t read social media in bed. Is it quieter? Calmer? Boring in a good way? Do nights feel longer?

Honestly, I haven’t really missed it that much.…
