Monday Mentions: the personal blogs I’ve been loving

A little while ago, I wrote a post, “Where did all the personal blogs go?” complaining about how I was struggling to find personal blogs to read and enjoy.

Since then, I’ve been on a campaign to find more.

I’ve been:

  • Stalking the comments of the blogs I already follow
  • Checking out the recommendations I got on my post (thanks Elisabeth!)
  • Following the “Blogging” sub on Reddit
  • Adding comments to posts – I love when people comment on my posts, so why not return the love and let people know I’m appreciating them

I’ve managed to find some great new blogs, which I thought I would share here.

And in doing so, create a “Monday Mentions” post theme. I love alliteration, but I reserve the right to forget I started this (kidding, I hope to keep finding and sharing more blogs here).

New Blogs I’ve discovered

  • The Optimistic Musings of a Pessimist – Where would I be without mentioning Elisabeth, and with a blog title that speaks to my soul! I have zero recollection of how I found Elisabeth’s site, but I love it. An incredible European trip, a very easy writing style that just makes it a joy to read…I am loving following Elisabeth’s adventures.
  • Grateful Kae – This was a recommendation from Elisabeth, and I’m really loving it. A mum of two boys, they’ve just been on an incredible holiday that’s giving me wanderlust, and she enjoys focusing on gratitude. So many ticks for me. This is a very fun read for anyone who wants to think about their next holiday.
  • Stories by Stephanie – A mum of boys, bookworm, loves lists and setting goals. We have so much in common already. Stephanie also writes “one-minute memoirs”, short-story style entries that are so interesting and captivating to read.
  • Anca’s Lifestyle – Anca is an expat living in Liverpool. Her posts are eye opening, with recent visits back to Ukraine filled with volunteering and everyday life. It’s heart breaking and heart warming at the same time. And, if you like cats, Volya is adorable.

I’ll keep it to only 4 for now, so that I’ve still got more up my sleeve for a future post.

Subscribing to blogs

Side note – I use the Feedly News Reader tool to follow blogs, so I can read them when I have a moment spare. It means I can categorise all the sites I follow, which, as you can see from below, there are a lot of categories. I have a lot of reading to do!

According to Feedly, I’ve subscribed to 103 personal blogs.

Only 17 of them post with any regularity.

Which is exactly why I’m doing this. The more we find each other, the better.

If there’s a site you particularly enjoy, or you write a personal blog, please share it in the comments below. I’m always keen to follow more!

    • Aren’t they amazing? I’m kicking msyelf that I didn’t write your site on my list, so if anyone is stalking the comments go check out girlinaboyhouse.com! But it’s at the top of my list for the next Monday mentions

  1. This is really great and thank you so much for the mention! I miss the old days of blogging and have also struggled to find active personal bloggers. It seems like most of them disappeared. I’ll be checking out the rest of your list.

    • My pleasure – really love your posts and only too happy to recommend it to others. I read your post about the dance at school and giggled to myself. My son is very much the wave and gone, dancing in the middle, type of personality.

Here’s hoping there’s a resurgence of blogs someday soon.

  2. I truly miss blogs. Over the years I found many but sadly most are no longer.

    • Me too, but I’m excited that I’m slowly but surely finding some really great ones to follow along with. Sadly, I more often than not see people talking about “niche” blogs, and the downfall because of AI etc. But for the truly personal blogs, AI doesn’t matter. No one is going to be searching google “tell me what someone got up to yesterday” (maybe they do…maybe I should try that and see what the results are haha).

  3. I’m catching up on blog posts. Awww. Thanks for the mention. There is a lovely community of bloggers (some of which have been around for 20+ years! I’m a newbie).
I have come to call many of them dear friends and have met quite a few which blows my mind!

Can’t wait to read the other blogs you reference that I wasn’t familiar with <3
