I’ve seen this topic trend on other blogs, and I love the idea. It’s also 9 pm, but I randomly wanted to smash out a post before bed, so here we are.
It’s going to be my highest quality writing ever, duh.
Let’s see how many typos I can make.
Almost caught up on reading blogs
I am so excited that I’ve almost caught up on reading the backlog of blog posts, thanks to all the new blogs I discovered!
As of right now, there are only 16 unread posts!
This means I can get back to writing comments on everyone’s posts, and sharing in a bit of the community love. Comments are always fun and welcome *hint hint*.
Then, of course, I’ll be on the hunt for some more now that I’ve gotten into a routine with reading, so if you know some good sites, please keep recommending them!
Our bookshelves are in
I am so, so excited. Our bookshelves are in, and they’re mostly decorated. I need a few more bits and pieces, and then I will be able to take some proper photos and post them on the blog.
I need the “after” photo to have some serious impact!
Also, fun fact, not sure if it’s this theme or some random extension I found, or possibly an update to WordPress?
I’ve discovered I can do the cool sliding image to show you before and afters. Which basically means now I’m going to have to spend some time taking proper photos of our bathrooms, laundry, and bookshelves, so you can see all the reno things we’ve been coordinating for the past *checks watch* nearly 12 months. It probably only took the guys maybe 2’ish months all up to get it done, we were waiting for most of that time.
My office got reorganised
Courtesy of the new bookshelves, my husband and I then spiralled into reorganising all the things.
Stuff came out of the kitchen and into the new cabinets, then the pantry moved into the empty cupboard, and now we’ve booked in the builder to knock down the old pantry and open up the kitchen. Guess we aren’t finished the renovations after all.
But as part of that, the treadmill came out of my office, the exercise bike went into my office, the bookshelf is now laying horizontally and everything is everywhere.
So not only is this month the “use up all the craft supplies” month, it’s also the “declutter your office because now there’s stuff everywhere and it’s killing you” month.
Good, because I clearly needed more to do. Not.
3 weeks to go
In three weeks, one of my friends from America is coming over with her family for a holiday, and I cannot wait!!
It was timed so perfectly for school holidays, so my son can play with her son. We’re also stealing my sister-in-law’s-niece for a few of the days, so my friend’s daughter also has a friend to hang out with.
They’ll be on the coast for just under a week, and we have so much planned. While watching all the videos on Australia, they of course stumbled on some that explain all the wildlife that can kill you. You know, like dropbears. So I’ve given them a heads-up on what to look out for and what not.
I haven’t seen a snake in the wild for years. Like…10 years even.
I guarantee you we’ll see one while they’re here. Because that never happens. But it will that week.
5 months of planning every day
I realised this morning that since I got my planner this year, I have sat down and written in it every single day.
That simple act of spending 10-15 minutes picking out a sticker, doing some random doodles or using my acrylic paint pens to make it look pretty…it’s addictive.
I am now an expert on pens, especially smudge-resistant ones for left-handers, and could tell you 5 different ways you can use washi tape. I could also tell you why you need a set of 6 fineliners of varying thicknesses, the bleed risk based on paper weight, and why a flat-to-open notepad is better for spirals. Also why bullet journals with dots are fantastic.
Addicted.
Anyways, I feel like this simple task has become possibly the front-runner as to reasons why my mental health feels so much stronger this year.
Writing regularly on my blog, albeit pointless sometimes, would be a close second.
Thanks for reading.
What have you been up to this week? Got any more blogs you think I’d enjoy? Did you ever have anything that would take a month or two, and a year later you’re just finishing it off?

Hi! Testing out whether I can comment now or not. This is my new blog (I had the Stained Glass Butterfly blog before this one). I am left-handed too!
I used to use bloglovin’ as my “reader” for blogs, but now it’s gone and I can’t find one that fits all my blogs into one space, so I get waaaayyyy behind on reading because I forget who I read. I’m sure when bloglovin’ went down, I lost several. In fact, I know of only 3 (you, runsforcookies, who doesn’t post much anymore, and Belief in Myself) that I am faithfully looking up and reading, but I get behind. I have a couple old blogs that I started from the beginning and am reading them, but I don’t think they currently blog anymore.
Anyway, as you can tell, I am also not writing much. Everytime I go to write something, my mind goes blank. I am blaming perimenopause.
I hear you! I started a list on my phone so that when I randomly think “I should write about this” I add it to the list, so I don’t have to think hard about it haha.
I use feedly if that helps? I’d be lost without my RSS reader. I tried subscribing via email to a few, but it just made my inbox so noisy and hard to manage. I’m so grateful that you still keep up with my blogs! I love runsforcookies, glad she’s taking some time for herself though
There are SO many great “old school” bloggers. I’ve made many real-life friends through blogs and it’s such a delightful community. I know you’re reading Nicole’s blog these days, here are a few more:
Rachel In Wales is a great blog (and I’m currently hanging out with her a lot while we finish up our trip to Europe in Wales!)
https://lifeofadoctorswife.wordpress.com/ (Suzanne Day by Day)
Runners Fly (Jenny)
The In Between is Mine (San)
https://ngradstudent.blogspot.com/ (Engie)
Shubox (Sarah Hart-Unger)
https://jellyjules.com/
Amazing, thank you!
My reader currently has 165 unread posts because I’ve been busy lately. I also get my Substack and email subscriptions sent there, so it can get unwieldy very quickly. I will be hitting read all tomorrow, I think.
I look forward to seeing your before and after photos.
Oh, I see Elisabeth linked you to my blog! Yay! If you fall in with our blog community, I think you will be pretty happy, we’re a good group. There is one other Aussie in the mix, Melissa at https://thebrightonjotter.com/
Thanks for coming by and commenting on my movie review. 🙂
I don’t use a reader, I’m old school and just click on the sidebar of my blog like it’s 2006 or something. But I just signed up to get emails when you post.
Thanks for subscribing! I am definitely loving the blogs in the group that I come across, and yes, definitely found Melissa and love reading her blog too. I’ve added yours to my reader as well, I love finding Aussie bloggers. Feels like we’re a rare breed these days.
I love your old school sidebar by the way, I’ve clicked on a bunch of them and have far too many open tabs in my browser. I refuse to close them until I’ve had a chance to read the blogs and follow some more. So thank you for your old school methods! Half inspired to do similar, in addition to the Monday mentions that I do from time-to-time.
Oh, and now I see that the Melissa who commented is the Melissa I told you about, perhaps you are blog friends already. 🙂
Umm…. can me and my family come visit you guys?!?! That would be a DREAM. Maybe I’ll start saving now and in a decade we will have enough hahahaha. Also – I love reading your blog. It makes me miss writing. I need to get writing again. *sigh. I have too many hobbies. Oh well. I suppose there are worse things in the world!
OMG Yes please come and visit!! I would love that so much!
I hear you on the too many hobbies thing – I figure it’s OK to jump from random ones every so often, and neglect the others. Whatever brings us joy, right? There’s no rules that we have to dedicate ourselves to only one thing?
