5 Things for Frursday Vol. 2

It’s Friday night, I’m procrastinating from doing the things I should be doing… so here we are.

Oh wait, no it’s not.

It’s Thursday!

We have a long weekend here (show holiday tomorrow), so it feels like a Friday night. I could schedule it to post tomorrow, I suppose, but that’s not as fun as admitting that my brain shut down, or that it’s just felt like a long week.

Let’s invent a new term then.

Frursday. Friday on a Thursday.

On with the 5 for a Frursday!

1 – Queen of Procrastination

I read a great quote this morning, and it sums me up perfectly for the last month or so:

Procrastination makes easy things hard, and hard things harder.

This week, I made a rule that I wasn’t allowed to touch my planner until I had worked out. That worked for one day. We had a late night that night, and the next morning, I woke up exhausted, and I didn’t work out.

I said I’d do my workout later that day.

I didn’t.

Rinse and repeat this week, and I’ve only worked out a couple of times. One was a strength session, though, so that was an improvement.

I’ve been putting off another craft project as well, mainly because I’m worried about it not turning out as perfectly as I want it to. Which means I’m just putting it off, aka making it way harder for myself.

So, next week I’m going to pull my big girl pants up, stop putting things off, and just get on with it.

2- Another wedding this week

This week, we were lucky enough to be invited to a friend’s daughter’s wedding, and it was spectacular.

It’s been raining a lot this week, but she paid an “Etsy witch”, and it appears to have worked! The skies cleared for her wedding, they got some spectacular golden hour sunlight for their photos, and then it finally started to rain again right at their first dance. They do say that rain on a wedding day is good luck, so perhaps that was their very own blessing?

The wedding was at Secrets on the Lake, a gorgeous venue on the Sunshine Coast. They have amazing treehouse cabins built on the side of the hill, and it’s a bucket list item for me to stay there.

A friend and I once joked about going away for the weekend somewhere, we don’t talk to each other at all, and just read. Secrets on the Lake would be my choice of location.

Here are a couple of snaps from the wedding, and yes, my dress got another outing!

It’s interesting that we’ve been to two weddings recently – autumn and winter aren’t the usual wedding seasons! For this one, winter is their favourite season (they love to snuggle together), so that’s why they chose to get married at this time of the year.

3 – World Cup Fantasy Teams

This year, my sister and I have dabbled in fantasy teams. It started with the English Premier League, but admittedly, I forgot just how bloody long the season was and tapped out just after halfway. Understandably, I lost.

We’re going for round 2 for the World Cup, but this time I’ve convinced my husband and son to join us.

My son is only 8, so I created an account for him and showed him how to pick players. To the surprise of no one, he insisted on picking Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, basically the only two names he knows.

“They’re the GOATs, mum!”

“Yep, but together that’s over 20% of your budget, mate.”

Anyways, he will probably beat me as well, and then I’ll look like a right fool.

Also to the surprise of no one, my husband chose the cheapest players and elected to keep money in the bank. I spent all of it on the best quality I could afford.

I feel like this is a fair representation of our personalities and ability to manage money.

4 – Loving my book

I’m reading the book “Code Name Hélène” right now, about Nancy Wake, aka The White Mouse.

Link: Goodreads

Long story short, Nancy was a spy during World War II. She helped smuggle people across borders and coordinated resistance efforts, providing weapons and other supplies. It flicks between different POVs, from before the war with her husband, to in the depths of her activities. She was truly incredible and well deserving of all of the medals and honours she received.

This book is amazing. I was explaining who she was to a friend last night, googled a Wikipedia link, and then spoiled it for myself with something I didn’t realise would happen. No spoilers though.

I will say that this book has some shocking elements, some “edge of your seat” elements, and some heartbreaking and heart-warming elements. It’s a fantastic telling of her life, and it’s really gripping.

Will be a 5-star on my reading wrap-up for the month for sure.

5 – Electric throw blanket for the win

As I write this, I’m sitting on the couch with my laptop, feet up on the ottoman, and my legs are toasty warm.

For Mother’s Day this year, my husband bought me an electric throw blanket, and it might just be my favourite thing ever. I’m being dramatic, but truly, I love it.

It’s been a chilly-ish winter so far! Anything under 20 degrees C (68 degrees F for my American friends) is cold to me. Seriously, as soon as it’s under 20 degrees, my body senses it, and I start hunting for my hoodie. And with our “high” temps sitting at around 23 for the week, then it’s a cool week.

Not to mention that our house is colder inside than it is out. Australian houses are stupid for insulation.

Anyway, that’s my Frursday wrapped up. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got a book, a throw blanket, and absolutely nothing urgent to do… because I’ve put it all off.

Are you watching the World Cup this year? Tell me I’m not the only one who puts things off and makes it harder for herself?
