What I Read in October 2026: 5 Books and 1 rare DNF

Header image of books and tea for What I read in October

Thanks to our cruise this month, I managed to log 5 books, plus a DNF. It’s super rare that I quit a book, but I felt like this one I just had to walk away.

Let’s take a look.

Total sidebar – I realised that I published my Cruise Day 6 post earlier today, but because they’re backdated, I don’t feel like it counts as such for NaBloPoMo. So, I guess you’ll just have to put up with me publishing twice some days!

Though that means it’ll take me longer to finish off my cruise posts. Thank goodness I’m on the back half of the trip now.

That makes this one the official first post for NaBloPoMo 2026!

5 things for Friday (vol. 15)

I’ve survived my first week back at work after two weeks of holiday! Truth be told, it was great to get back and see everyone, sit still, and just feel productive again.

Orange Nails

I had painted my nails a hot pink glow-in-the-dark colour before leaving for the cruise. By the time I got home, they were removed and I was ready for my next set.

I decided I’d go with orange, partly because I’m inspired by all the fall/autumn colours I’m seeing online, and partly because of Halloween this weekend. It’s on theme!

The colour I chose was actually a colour-changing colour, which I only remembered halfway through. My sister-in-law had the same one and it barely changed colour for her.…

It’s been a really uneventful week, and I felt like I was scraping the bottom of the barrel to come up with something to write.

So I decided that this week I would share what I’ve been listening, watching, reading, and thinking about.

Listening

Working from home, I always have to have noise in the background. Enter Spotify.

(Side topic: I wish you could claim Spotify as a necessary WFH expense. But myyyy wouldn’t that piss off all the folks who hate the idea of working from home in the first place?)

Although I have a gigantic starred playlist, my mood varies a lot. Most of the time I start a radio based on a single song. Or a mate at work recommends something, I play it, get focused on work, and Spotify just keeps doing its thing after.…

5 Things for Friday (on a Saturday)

I missed publishing my post yesterday, mainly because it was such a hectic day that after work I ended up on the couch falling asleep on my husband’s lap. But I wanted to get this posted, so here we are.

No sinus surgery required

A few weeks ago I mentioned going to see my doc for a few things, one of them being my sinus. I was told when I was young I had a deviated septum, and as an adult sometimes breathing through my nose is tough. So we decided to get it checked out, especially since I tend to get sinus infections semi-regularly.

Well, it turns out that I don’t have a deviated septum, nor any polyps, or any other reason that I need surgery.…

August Reading Roundup: One book I wanted to throw across the room (and still gave 4 stars)

Illustrated reading roundup with the words “August Reading Roundup: One book I wanted to throw across the room (and still gave 4 stars)”

August reading started with the conclusion of one of the most infuriating books I’ve read in a long time. Thankfully the remaining books I chose for the month were all pretty enjoyable, even though I did miss a few nights of reading here and there.

Whoops, yet again it looks like I didn’t choose the correct format (and spoiler: I think I’ve done the same thing for the book I’m reading in September too, whoops). They were all Kindle books again.
