5 things for Friday (vol. 15)

I’ve survived my first week back at work after two weeks of holiday! Truth be told, it was great to get back and see everyone, sit still, and just feel productive again.

Orange Nails

I had painted my nails a hot pink glow-in-the-dark colour before leaving for the cruise. By the time I got home, they were removed and I was ready for my next set.

I decided I’d go with orange, partly because I’m inspired by all the fall/autumn colours I’m seeing online, and partly because of Halloween this weekend. It’s on theme!

The colour I chose was actually a colour-changing colour, which I only remembered halfway through. My sister-in-law had the same one and it barely changed colour for her. It’s meant to go from red to a light orange.

This might be Glamrdip’s only fail to date for me. The fact that even with ice on it, the colour barely changed is a bit of a letdown. That said, I kinda love the orange by itself anyway, and all their other thermal colour-changing colours are so spectacular that I’m willing to let this one slide.

Jon Ronson in Brisbane

On Tuesday night a friend and I spontaneously went to Brisbane to see author Jon Ronson tell a story from his latest book, “The Castle”.

The only thing I had known of him before this was that he wrote “The Psychopath Test”, and it was apparently really good. It’s on my TBR list.

We had such a great night! I don’t think I’ve ever laughed this hard from an author before. He was compelling, funny, and the story was just wild! Have a read of a news story recapping what the book is about here. Short version: a crazy guy with a huge ego and endless wealth, an imaginary Netflix reality show, giant castle, basement grotto, death threats…

Needless to say I’ve bought Jon’s book (signed, woohoo) and it’s also been added to my TBR list.

Uterus ultrasound

This week I had a precautionary ultrasound done, both external and internal, ew. Drinking 1L of water and then holding it is not fun. I’m surprised I didn’t pee my pants the moment she touched me with the uterus wand. I was so happy when she told me I could finally go to the loo.

Best. Wee. Ever.

It’s all just precautionary to make sure there’s nothing untoward going on in there. Next week I meet with my surgeon again and decide for certain if I’m having a hysterectomy next year or not. It’s a 6-week recovery, so I’m not taking this decision lightly, plus the associated risks, but the idea of never having a period again sounds bloody fantastic. I’m still thinking it over, plus working out my options with my employer, but it’s looking likely.

Need a better system

Writing my cruise recaps, I’m realising how much I need a better system for blogging/recording video when I’m on the go.

When I write a recap, I’m having to search through my photos in my gallery, pick one, edit, save, export, resize, upload. I estimate that writing one of these posts is taking me nearly 2 hours, mainly from that. The writing itself isn’t the bad part.

I think I’m going to research what travel vloggers and bloggers do. I’d love to know how they don’t go insane with this. Especially if I decide to go ahead with some of my 52s next year!

52s for 2027

After my little tantrum a few weeks ago (pre-holiday stress, clearly) I’ve decided I’m definitely still doing my 52 in 52 list next year.

With caveats.

I’m going to wind back the ambition and keep it to smaller “one and done” tasks. If I’m getting surgery, I don’t want to try and predict what that time will be like, or what recovery will look like. I certainly don’t want to add to the pressure by having monthly tasks, or streaks… you know what I mean.

I just don’t know what next year will bring.

But in saying that, there are still some very fun ideas I have in mind, and I’m still excited for 2027.

Do you have a system for sorting photos and videos when you’re travelling, or do you also come home to complete chaos?

If you were doing a 52-in-52 list, would you go big or keep it to smaller one-and-done things?
