August Gratitude Day 1: Highlight of my day

This month, Elisabeth from The Optimistic Muse, is hosting a month of daily gratitude prompts. I’ve been trying to practice gratitude more, and each day I write something I’m grateful for in my planner.

I’ve decided to take this one step further in August, and join Elisabeth’s challenge by blogging my daily gratitude prompt. So here goes!

The highlight of my day was…

Seeing how moved my husband was when he was reading the birthday card my son gave him.

Amongst other things he had written simply “thanks for being my dad.”

You guys, parenting is hard. We are always beating ourselves up, wondering if we are doing our best. Wondering if we are too angry, or too hard on our kid. Or not hard enough. We are our own worst critic, which, in a sick way, shows we are doing the best we can.

And it’s truly a thankless job.

Speaking from experience, I think I only realised how hard it was when I had to do the job myself. And I don’t know if I’ve ever really driven the point home to my mother how grateful I really am for her.

So in a way, watching my husband get just a hint of a message that our son appreciates him, and how much it meant to my husband, it meant everything to me too.

Because he truly is an incredible husband and father. And we are so very very grateful for him.

The highlight of my day was watching someone else feel appreciated. How lucky am I to be there and witness that?

What was the highlight of your day? What’s something special about your parents that you love and appreciate?
