August Gratitude Day 8: When I Feel Most Content

As I write this, I’m feeling pretty content. I’ve been hanging out with a good friend of mine all day, doing Lego, watching TV, and having a low-key day.

We just won’t talk about the incident with the Lego flowers that fell off the table, smashed everywhere, and was promptly packed away in the box and ignored.

We’ve even cooked dinner together (neither of us cook, like ever) and even watched the sunset.

The sunset over the mountain ridge

We’re now relaxing with a vodka lime and soda, watching another episode of Elsbeth. Yep…content.

Which brings me to the daily gratitude prompt from The Optimistic Muse.

I feel most content when…

Now, this might be a surprise to all of you, but I didn’t overthink it. I know! Surprise to me too!

I thought of the times that I feel my most happy and fulfilled, and suddenly was able to rattle off a list.

  • Going for an outing with my husband and son. Hiking, the beach, basically anywhere we feel like exploring. Or it be sitting still. Road trips. Camping. Basically whenever I’m not getting asked for snacks or my water bottle.
  • In the bath, reading a book, possibly with some snacks.
  • On a Sunday night, when all the bed sheets have been changed, washing and folding put away, and my planner for the week all filled out. Can’t beat that “on top of things” feeling.
  • When lego doesn’t smash all over the floor. Ahem.
  • Looking at the sunset. Or sunrise. Or the sky in general, really.

If I had to pick just one, as in the most content? It’s the time with my family. My two boys and I, just sitting together, hanging out…no snack questions.

You can’t beat it.

What makes you feel most content? If your answer involves a planner, we might just be new best friends.

  1. What a fun and beautiful prompt. And I love your answers! I am content when the house is relatively picked up and I can rest. Usually by reading a book while my kids play. Either in the house or in the backyard with me sitting on the deck. I also love the feeling of writing a good list!! Love getting organized. I don’t use a planner quite the same way you do, but I love a good list, a plan for the day, and a fun colored pen!
