Weekend Round-Up: Drums, Paper Flowers, and the Dress My Son Picked

It’s Sunday night, I’m in my PJs at 6 pm, and we’re having a family movie night (although I’m using the opportunity to write a blog post).

It has been a pretty hectic weekend! Honestly, I could go to bed right now and fall asleep pretty solidly until morning.

Here’s a quick recap of the highlights.

Markets and Marketplace

Saturday morning kicked off with my son and I heading to the Yandina markets bright and early while the hubby went fishing. My son always gets a fruit smoothie and a pretzel for breakfast (not exactly nutritious, but it’s his weekly treat). And my husband, when he’s there, always gets a curry puff and chicken skewers from the Asian stall there. I guess my son chose to honour his dad, since he got curry puffs and chicken skewers instead.…

Sarcastic planner stickers (because sometimes you just need a rude one)

This week my dog killed a possum.

I know, I know, but I swear it’s relevant to my story.

It was midnight, I was asleep, and suddenly there were grunting and banging sounds outside the bedroom window. I made my husband get up and attempt a rescue mission. He was too late. Not great for the possum, not great for my sleep, not great for the husband who got voluntold at midnight.

This latest episode of shit sleep has been on top of the usual perimenopause sleep chaos, plus a sore shoulder and a dodgy stomach thrown in for fun this week.

Yesterday I was so exhausted I ended up calling it at 10.30am and taking the day off work. In an effort to sleep better last night, I had a magnesium and lavender bath at 6.30pm, chamomile and honey tea (not sure I like that combination, to be honest), and was in bed by 8.…

The Easter long weekend, and forgetting how to use a wallet

It’s only just past 4 pm on the Monday of the Easter long weekend, and I’m already in my pyjamas.

I’ve informed the family that we’re having a movie night. What I actually mean is that I’m going to be a sloth on the couch, and they’re welcome to join me.

This is entirely my own fault. I stayed up late last night finishing my book because I was so close to the happy ending I’d been waiting for, and apparently, my self-control is nonexistent. So now I’m tired and have no one else to blame for it.

Anyway. Time for an Easter long weekend recap.

Good Friday

This day was relatively chill. It was the only day of the whole weekend we didn’t have something social planned.…

What do you even do with a free morning at home?

It’s Easter Saturday, and I genuinely don’t know what to do with myself at home today.

Yesterday was a productive one. Lots of housework, including multiple loads of washing and cleaning the bathrooms. I folded clothes, my husband sprayed outside to clean the concrete, and then we all went for a ride.

I bribed my son to ride the long way with a Boost Juice, which absolutely worked, and I’d do it again. He spent over an hour in the saddle, which is his longest ride yet. We’re slowly building up to the day we can all ride to the beach together. That’ll be a good day.

On the ride, we stopped at a park, and then rode through the nearby Uni.…

More wins and not-so white towels

I don’t know how it’s already almost the end of February. It feels like I blinked sometime in early January and now summer is packing up its things (in Australia, anyway). I’m very ready for cooler mornings and not feeling personally attacked by the humidity.

This month has been a bit of a slog. The monthly fitness challenge for iFit is 150 minutes a week of a workout, aka 5 x 30min sessions. I’ve got 2 left to go for the month, and yet to do my workout today, so by tomorrow I’ll have one remaining! That means I should finish the challenge with a day up my sleeve.

It’s been hard. Not dramatic hard, just that steady, “I really don’t feel like this today” kind of hard.…
