More wins and not-so white towels

I don’t know how it’s already almost the end of February. It feels like I blinked sometime in early January and now summer is packing up its things (in Australia, anyway). I’m very ready for cooler mornings and not feeling personally attacked by the humidity.

This month has been a bit of a slog. The monthly fitness challenge for iFit is 150 minutes a week of a workout, aka 5 x 30min sessions. I’ve got 2 left to go for the month, and yet to do my workout today, so by tomorrow I’ll have one remaining! That means I should finish the challenge with a day up my sleeve.

It’s been hard. Not dramatic hard, just that steady, “I really don’t feel like this today” kind of hard.…

Smug no more

I think I jinxed myself.

I got a little too smug about my 52-in-52 progress this year, and within 24 hours the universe said, “Oh really?”

I decided to tackle two more goals.

First up: solve a Rubik’s cube.

I’ve watched the tutorials. Rewatched the tutorials. Written three pages of step-by-step instructions in my notepad, like I’m studying for an exam. I have come so close.

But not close enough.

It had to be put away before I launched it at the wall.

Next: build some LEGO.

I’ve got a cute little sunflower mini set sitting here. A bargain Kmart knock-off.

Two pieces in and I realise something’s missing.

It’s fine, I tell myself.…

February 52-in-52 Update

It’s Sunday morning, and I should be doing a workout on my bike.

Instead, I stayed up too late watching the Winter Olympics, still woke up just after 5 am (rude), and now I’m tired and procrastinating on the couch.

So obviously, this feels like the perfect time to write a little update on my 52s.

Journalling

This year, I really wanted to get back into using a planner properly. Towards the end of last year, I noticed that writing things down and actually spending a bit of time setting out my day really helped reduce that constant feeling of chaos.

During the day, I found myself writing things down too. Questions I had, notes for work, random thoughts, or just things that were bugging me.…

So Anyway, February Chose Violence

One of my 52 in 52 goals this year is to earn an iFit badge every month, either on my treadmill or my indoor bike.

January felt very achievable.

And then February hit.

Bloody hell.

Last month was six sessions on the bike and eight on the treadmill. Easily doable. I knocked them over in a couple of weeks by alternating workouts, throwing in rest days, and sometimes just counting a dog walk as enough for the day.

Not February.

February iFit Challenge

The February challenge is called “Beat the Clock”.

You have the month of February to complete 150 minutes of activity each week. That’s five workouts per week, already curated for you and waiting in the Challenge

My goal was one badge a month, with a stretch goal of earning both.…

A Big Week, a Full Heart, and a Very Tired Monday

It’s Monday morning, and right now I should be finishing up a workout, or walking the dog.

Instead, I’m still in my workout clothes, eyes blurry, motivation nowhere to be found. I feel like I could sleep for days.

I’m recovering from a massive week.

Work trip

The reason for all this exhaustion? A big work trip away.

Last week I flew to Adelaide for a work trip. With a large portion of the company working from home, it means that it’s pretty rare that we get together in person. I’m lucky that some of my workmates live within a couple of hours, and this year we’ve vowed to try and catch up in person more. But for the rest of us, it’s a once-a-year opportunity.…

I forgot about my everyday

Earlier this week I wrote about the loss of personal blogs, and how hard they’ve become to find. I mentioned how much I love reading about the everyday lives of others — just the mundane stuff.

And that’s when it clicked that I don’t even write about the mundane anymore.

Somewhere along the way, I started putting pressure on myself to make every post feel monumental. Super polished. Walk away, come back another day, edit it again until it’s “right”. It’s no wonder I slowly drifted away from blogging last year.

If I’m trying to teach myself to embrace imperfection, why wouldn’t that extend to my blog too?

Why can’t I write an everyday post (likely full of errors) that’s fun to write and hopefully fun to read?…
