Screens down. Kid Unlocked.

This weekend, I solo-parented while my husband headed off camping with his dad. Just me and the kid.

And we’ve been in an ongoing war with tech screen time in this house. I’ll be honest, I haven’t always been winning it.

The Tech Battle

Our son was recently grounded from all tech completely after some behaviour that warranted it. And while I held the line… I did cave on Saturday morning cartoons. Slightly. He was limited to one channel and a set time, but still. The silver lining is that it meant I was able to clean the bathrooms and get some much-needed housework done.

The toughest thing is that he has two parents who work from home. He watches us on our computers all day, and no matter how many times we explain that we’re paid to be there, that it’s work and not fun, the logic doesn’t quite land the way you’d hope.…

February Reading Round Up

I know March is nearly over, and I’m delayed in posting this, but I realised it was something that I wanted to start sharing on my blog.

I really enjoy looking at what others are reading, and adding things to my TBR (To Be Read) list.

Last year, I made a conscious effort to cut back on social media. Since then, my reading levels have skyrocketed. I upgraded my Kindle, subscribed to Kindle Unlimited, discovered I can borrow ebooks through my library, and found out there’s another library available through Amazon Prime.

So really… I have no excuses.

Thanks to friends, I’ve also started reading a lot more fantasy. It’s fun getting swept up in imaginary worlds and all the different characters that come with them.…

Go Somewhere Purple (Apparently That Means Crushing Grapes)

My 52 List this year has a few carryovers from last year – ideas I loved, but never quite got around to.

One of those was the challenge to “Go somewhere purple.”

When I first wrote it, I had something very specific in mind – a lavender farm. There’s one that’s a 3-hour drive away from us, Kaooroomba Vineyard and Lavender Farm. I’ve been eying it off for a while, given we love visiting vineyards and trying new wines, and it just sounds downright beautiful. I figured find a camping spot nearby, take the caravan out for a weekend, and make a trip out of it.

Then, an opportunity came up to do something completely different, that also satisfied the “purple” criteria – grape crushing!…
