April Reading Round-up: I Finally Caved and Read Crescent City

Well, today’s the day! It’s glam time, baby! My cousin’s wedding is today, which means it’s finally time to break out the dress.

This morning I’ve already done my fingernails, painted my toenails, showered, and straightened my hair.

There’s just over an hour left until we go, so just enough time to post an April reading round-up before I have to do my makeup.

Summary

This month started with finishing off a romance novel, before jumping off a cliff and diving headfirst into the Sarah J Maas world of Crescent City.

A Weekend That Actually Did the Job

After writing a post on Saturday about my anxiety crash, I’m happy to report that the Anzac Day long weekend refilled my cup in a major way.

Being a public holiday, it meant most things were closed for the day. My son played at a friend’s house up the street, and I’m so grateful to our neighbours, because it meant I could potter around and do whatever I felt like. No responsibilities, no one calling my name…just…whatever.

  • I did so much reading that I finished my latest book – House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas (no. 2 in the Crescent City series, not an affiliate link btw). I’ll do a proper review when I do my monthly reading round-up, but let me just say, I was glad I didn’t have to put it down for long.

This week, my anxiety won

My anxiety finally caught up with me this week, and I crashed in a big way.

I could feel it building, and my body was growing more and more fatigued. I would wake up in the morning, barely feeling refreshed. I developed a cold sore in the corner of my mouth. My motivation to do anything was dipping, and my desire to retreat into a cave became overwhelming.

A few nights, I tried going to bed earlier. I gave myself permission not to do my to-do list. I slothed on the couch, and sometimes found myself doom-scrolling, which, in hindsight, disappointed me. I’d been doing so much better at avoiding that.

On a surface level, it felt like I was taking it easy, but it didn’t solve anything.…

Last week, I started a new blog theme called Monday Mentions where I share some of the personal blogs I’ve discovered around the internet.

It’s been so refreshing to discover new blogs again. I’d really missed it, just hearing about the everyday things, what’s been going on in other people’s lives, those little ‘me too!’ moments. A little less lonely, you know?

(And now I’m singing “A little less conversation, a little more action please”. Great reminder for me to get onto the point of this post, actually…ahem).

Weekend Round-Up: Drums, Paper Flowers, and the Dress My Son Picked

It’s Sunday night, I’m in my PJs at 6 pm, and we’re having a family movie night (although I’m using the opportunity to write a blog post).

It has been a pretty hectic weekend! Honestly, I could go to bed right now and fall asleep pretty solidly until morning.

Markets and Marketplace

Saturday morning kicked off with my son and I heading to the Yandina markets bright and early while the hubby went fishing. My son always gets a fruit smoothie and a pretzel for breakfast (not exactly nutritious, but it’s his weekly treat). And my husband, when he’s there, always gets a curry puff and chicken skewers from the Asian stall there. I guess my son chose to honour his dad, since he got curry puffs and chicken skewers instead.…
