52 in 52 Update: A Kind Stranger, Some Lego, and a Lookbook

My last 52 in 52 wrap-up was in February, so we’re due another one. Seventeen things ticked off, 35 to go. I can’t believe I’ve knocked over that many already.

Here’s where things are at.

Do something kind for a stranger

You’d have to be living with your head under a rock (which sounds blissful right now) to not know that fuel prices are absolutely disgusting. Where $50 used to be a full tank, now you’re lucky if it fills up a quarter.

Which gave me the perfect time to be kind to a stranger.

I’d been thinking about this one for ages. Discussed the logistics with friends, planned it five times over mentally… and then the moment just happened, spontaneously, on a bike ride with my husband and son on the Sunshine Coast.…

What do you even do with a free morning at home?

It’s Easter Saturday, and I genuinely don’t know what to do with myself at home today.

Yesterday was a productive one. Lots of housework, including multiple loads of washing and cleaning the bathrooms. I folded clothes, my husband sprayed outside to clean the concrete, and then we all went for a ride.

I bribed my son to ride the long way with a Boost Juice, which absolutely worked, and I’d do it again. He spent over an hour in the saddle, which is his longest ride yet. We’re slowly building up to the day we can all ride to the beach together. That’ll be a good day.

On the ride, we stopped at a park, and then rode through the nearby Uni.…

Your body image isn’t the problem. It’s the clue.

This morning, I listened to a podcast from the Butterfly Foundation called It’s not about the body: the hidden story behind your body image.

If you’ve struggled with an eating disorder or body image issues, I’d recommend giving it a listen.

Not because it’ll fix anything overnight, but because it reframes the whole question in a way that actually makes sense. Or at least it did for me.

The big idea is this: negative body image isn’t the root problem. It’s a coping mechanism. It’s your brain doing its best to protect you from something harder. They actually suggest asking, “What is my body image protecting me from?”

My brain exploded.

I recently posted about the progress I’ve made with my weight loss, thanks to taking a GLP-1, Mounjaro.…

March Reading Round-Up: Turns Out I’m a Romance Reader Now

Maybe it’s time I start admitting that I’m a romance reader. Not a “I just read these for a brain break” reader. An actual, unashamed, will-read-the-whole-series-in-a-week romance reader.

Kinda like how I pretend I don’t enjoy reality TV. Some things you just have to come clean about eventually.

Anyway. March reading round-up. It’s much better than February’s effort, and I’m actually posting this on time! I’m on a 30-day tracking streak in Storygraph, which I’m pretty chuffed with…

I’m always really impressed with the people who can make a lot of time to read during the day. For me, I tend to get my reading in when I’m folding clothes (propping my Kindle up on the table in front of me), or as a wind-down before bed.…

Screens down. Kid Unlocked.

This weekend, I solo-parented while my husband headed off camping with his dad. Just me and the kid.

And we’ve been in an ongoing war with tech screen time in this house. I’ll be honest, I haven’t always been winning it.

The Tech Battle

Our son was recently grounded from all tech completely after some behaviour that warranted it. And while I held the line… I did cave on Saturday morning cartoons. Slightly. He was limited to one channel and a set time, but still. The silver lining is that it meant I was able to clean the bathrooms and get some much-needed housework done.

The toughest thing is that he has two parents who work from home. He watches us on our computers all day, and no matter how many times we explain that we’re paid to be there, that it’s work and not fun, the logic doesn’t quite land the way you’d hope.…
